Statement of Solidarity & Aloha
Witnessing violence and hatred toward people of color has brought many of us in Hawaiian Islands Land Trust to our knees. We mourn with families of those attacked and killed and seek justice towards a pono community. We condemn police brutality and racism in all forms. We stand with Black and AAPI communities.
It is our duty to be forthright in advocating for the justice and harmony that are essential for sustaining current and future generations. The health of the land is directly tied to the health of the people. Justice is a current that runs through our work as land is at the center of Native Hawaiian health and well-being. Hawaiian Islands Land Trust is committed to making inclusion, justice, and compassion core elements in all that we do. We redouble our efforts to use land conservation to empower and uplift those in our community who face prejudice and oppression and the poverty that often results. This is our work for the long term, but today our focus is on Black and AAPI communities. We see you. We love you. We stand with you.
