The conservation goals of Hāna Ranch are completely in sync with the work of a land trust. We were delighted to find a Maui-based organization to help us accomplish those goals. It's especially impressive that a young, non-profit organization meets the highest standards of professionalism.

ABOUT MAKA‘ALAE

Maka‘alae translates to mudhen's eyes, named for the endangered ‘alae ‘ula‘ula (Hawaiian moorhen-Gallinula chloropus sandvicensis) with a red face. which is no longer found on Maui.  Along the Hāna coast was the Maui Coastal Land Trust's very first conservation easement signed in 2003 and was donated by Hāna Ranch.  This is a very popular spot for fishing for the Hāna community.  This property has a long history of agriculture including cattle grazing and many years ago, tobacco and sugarcane.  Located very close to the Waioka Pond (Venus Pool).  This land was protected to preserve the beautiful view of the ocean and prevent development along this amazing coastline.
